How to Cancel Facebook and Make a New Account

If you need to cancel Facebook and make a new account, you'll have to do more than just deactivate it. Account deactivation doesn't erase your Facebook friends and settings -- Facebook keeps a record of everything. This makes it possible to reestablish your Facebook account if you change your mind about deleting it. If you want to start a new account, however, you must have Facebook delete the account entirely before you can begin again.

Deleting Your Account

Step 1

Log in to your Facebook account at facebook.com.

Step 2

Click "Account" on the right side of the menu at the top of the screen. Choose "Account Settings" from the list that drops down. This takes you to the My Account page.

Step 3

Click "Deactivate" in the Deactivate Account section of the Settings tab.

Step 4

Visit the Delete My Account page. Find it by Clicking "Account" and choosing "Help Center." Type "Delete My Account" in the Help Center search box. Click "Search." In the results that come up, click "Submit Your Request Here" in the How Do I Permanently Delete My Account section.

Step 5

Click "Submit" on the Delete My Account page. Wait for Facebook to delete your account.

Create a New Account

Step 1

Visit facebook.com.

Step 2

Type your first and last name, email, birthday and gender into the form. Enter a new password.

Step 3

Click "Sign Up."
